My girl knows only two speeds. She spends her waking hours constantly moving, a warm, tiny mass determined to expend every bit of her energy. And then, without warning, she demands rest.
When she sleeps, the entire house goes quiet. I can read books not made of cardboard without fear that she will rip out essential pages. I can knit without pausing every five minutes to untangle her from whatever project I decided to attempt. I get a few moments to rest myself and prepare for the next round of constant movement.
Nap time, right now, is necessary. For kiddo, for me, for Z, even for the dogs.
